How to Submit A Podcast to TuneIn: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Are you looking for new directories to get your podcast listed? When you submit a podcast to TuneIn, you can expand your reach by getting your content out to millions of new listeners. This guide contains a step-by-step walkthrough of the process and provides an overview of the TuneIn platform.

What is TuneIn?

TuneIn is a streaming service that features podcasts, news radio, sports broadcasts, and music. The platform boasts millions of subscribers worldwide with more joining every day. TuneIn began as a streaming service for radio shows but has expanded its content to include podcasts in response to the growing popularity of the medium.

How Do I Listen to Podcasts on TuneIn?

TuneIn makes listening to podcasts easy and convenient by providing subscribers the option to listen on desktop, mobile, and smart devices. You can access content using a web browser or by downloading their app in the Google Play or Apple store. The TuneIn app comes preloaded on all Alexa devices and is also compatible with Google Home.

Podcasts on the platform are categorized by genre and the search feature makes browsing easy if you’re looking for a specific show. The podcast section of the app also displays featured content, podcasts popular in your area, and shows that have recently added new episodes.

Why Should You Use TuneIn Over Other Podcast Directories?

There are many podcast directories available to listeners, but they don’t all have the same features and functionality. We always recommend listing your content on as many directories as possible. If you have limited time and resources and can’t publish your content broadly, it’s important that you select the right platform. We’ll explain more about what a podcast directory is, how podcast distribution works, and explain the advantages of using TuneIn Podcasts to distribute your show.

What is a Podcast Directory?

Podcast directories are listening apps where your audience can go to access your content. From these apps, listeners can view information about your show and your episodes. They can also browse podcasts by topic, search for them by title, or download podcast episodes for offline listening.

Podcast directories are important because they’re how your listeners find and listen to your content. After you’ve recorded your show and uploaded it to your podcast host, the next step is having it listed in one or more podcast directories for distribution.

What is Podcast Distribution?

You distribute your podcast by placing it on podcast directories like TuneIn using an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed. An RSS feed is a file that contains all of your podcast information (show description, episode information, etc) and allows podcast directories to update your content in real-time when you post a new episode or update your show’s artwork. RSS feeds are provided by your podcast host for you to give to podcast directories for distribution.

What’s the Difference Between a Podcast Directory and a Podcast Host?

Podcast hosting sites and podcast directories work together to deliver your content to listeners. Before you learn more about TuneIn podcast submission, you should understand the difference between the two so you better understand the submission process.

Podcast hosting sites are where you upload content after recording and editing it. They’re media storage sites where your content is saved so that it can be accessed. Hosting sites often have monetization features you can leverage to make money from your content. They also may provide the ability to publish your podcast to multiple directories at once, which saves time during the distribution process. Some hosting sites include PodBean and Buzzsprout

Advantages of Listing Your Podcast on TuneIn

The TuneIn Podcast platform has many features that can help you grow your audience. We’ll highlight some of the advantages of using TuneIn Podcasts to distribute your podcast and explain how you can use them to your benefit.

Helpful Podcast Analytics

TuneIn grants podcasters access to listener podcast analytics via its Amplifier program. Simply embed your TuneIn Embed Player on your website. Once you’ve embedded the player, provide TuneIn with the website URL and the email address associated with your TuneIn account. TuneIn will confirm your player is embedded correctly and then grant access to listener analytics through Amplifier.

Connect Your Content to Alexa

Many people listen to podcast content on smart devices that use Alexa. TuneIn comes preloaded on all Alexa-enabled devices, which will make your content available to anyone using one of these devices.

Attract More Listeners with an Embed Player

TuneIn grants you the ability to share your content outside of the platform with an embed player you can place on your podcast website. This means that even if someone doesn’t want to use the TuneIn podcast app to listen to podcasts, they can still access yours using the embed player.

TuneIn’s Podcast Requirements

There are some minimum requirements your podcast needs to meet for it to be listed on TuneIn. Before you submit a podcast to TuneIn, make sure it meets these requirements:

  • Your podcast needs to have a unique title.
  • You have to have at least one podcast episode that’s in mp3 or m4a format. TuneIn doesn’t accept video files (mp4 or m4v) or digital documents (pdf or epub).
  • Your show’s artwork has to be a JPG or PNG format file that’s square and at least 1400x1400 pixels.
